The Study of Children's Emotions

Who is Eligible to Participate?

  • Children between the ages of 7 and 11 and their families
  • Children who have or might have ADD/ADHD
  • Children who do not have ADD/ADHD

What do we do?

  • The Study  of Children's Emotions consists of 2-3 visits at the University of Louisville over the course of the month.
  • During the first session:
    • Parents will answer answer interview questions and complete several pencil-and-paper questionnaires
    • ​Children will complete several paper-and-pencil questionnaires
    • Children will complete a brief IQ and brief academic achievement assessment
    • We will train you to use a Palm Pilot to complete rating scales of your child's mood and behavior at home
  • During the second visit:
    • ​​Children will complete a heart rate assessment to​measure how your child’s heart rate changes while he or she is feeling different emotions

Compensation 

  • Parents will be provided with a summary of your child’s performance on the brief IQ and academic achievement test, as well as any clinical measures of attention, behavior, and mood.
  • Children will be provided with a $5 gift card at the end of the first and second sessions
  • ​Parents will be provided with a gift card ranging from $5-$10 upon returning the Palm Pilot
